Story developing... the biological father of Mercy James, the 3-year old Malawian orphan that Madonna is desperately trying to adopt, has issued a plea to halt the adoption process. According to our sources:

A letter from James Kambewa who is the father of Mercy James, to lawyers is pictured. Madonna's hopes of adopting three-year-old Mercy James hit another setback as her real dad launched an official bid to stop proceedings. Mercy's long-lost dad James Kambewa, 24, is speaking to a lawyer and wants to bring an injunction preventing the star from taking his daughter. The security guard, who earns just £23 a month, insists he can bring up Mercy himself and says he plans to halt the adoption. In a letter sent to lawyers Mr Kambewa reveals: "I have learnt that an American musician called Madonna has applied to a court for the adoption of the kid, to which the grandmother has consented. "However, I do not consent to the adoption because I feel I am capable of raising the child. "May you please help me to obtain an injunction to stop the court process until I am heard."  

How do you say too little too late in Malawian? If she was living in an orphanage, then I think it's pretty clear that you weren't taking care of her. Honestly... I smell blackmail or briberies, as the bargaining chip for future negotiations.
